Community Impact reports that, back in 1957, Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce founded the Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo. The Fair and Rodeo was begun as Field Days and evolved into a rodeo by 1979.
According to Montgomery County Fair Executive Director Brian Hayes, the first event was to allow a way to compete with one’s neighbor at ranches and farms in an effort to show how good you were when it came to raising livestock.
The event grew in the 1960’s, and the yearly Field Days started to look like the present Montgomery Fair and Rodeo. It moved to expanded sites as it continued. It evolved into a nonprofit–the Montgomery County Fair Association.
Developing over time, as the Fair and Rodeo at smaller locations in Willis, to Candy Cane Park Pavilion in Conroe, to the Fairgrounds–it’s location today–it’s primary mission, to support the youth of Montgomery County, grew.
If you’re also interested in other types of entertainment, a classic car show will be featured on the first Saturday of the rodeo. Dog olympic entertainment, called Extreme Dogs, will be happening at the Fair as well as a number of concert performances.
In 2023, the Montgomery Fair Association gave $1.6 million to Montgomery County youth. It happens April 11th through the 21st. For more info, go to mcfa.org.
