The Courier of Montgomery County reports that for its 36th year the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival returns this weekend. The good times ahead will happen, for the first time, outside of downtown Conroe.
This Friday and Sunday, after three decades on the downtown square, the festival moves to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
The organizing group behind the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival is the Friends of Conroe nonprofit. Music-loving community members looked to bring an event to the square as the festival began its birth in the 1990’s.
The move to the fairgrounds offers the event a chance to grow while breathing new life into the festival according to festival co-chairman Mark Taylor.
The fairgrounds are located northeast of downtown Conroe at 9055 Airport Road. There is plenty of parking available between the entrance to the festival and the nearby Lone Star Convention Center.
Taylor said the festival will be setup similar to the Montgomery County Fair and will use the main entrance to the fair along Airport Parkway.
The main stage will be located to the left of the entrance. The carnival will be on the right, all similar to the fair setup. The Cajun Stage, for the first time, will be under a covered pavilion on the grounds.
Running through the center of the fair grounds on the cement path, fair-goers will be able to visit vendors.
The hours for the festival are on Friday from 6 PM to midnight, 11 AM to Midnight Saturday and noon to 6 PM on Sunday. Featuring Originales De Nuevo Leon, Tejano Day is from 4 to 11 PM Sunday.
On the Wholesale Electric Main Stage on Friday night the entertainment includes Tyler Trantham, Jesse Raub Jr. and Aaron Watson. Saturday’s entertainment will feature Ralyn Gayle, The Smokin Oaks, Tyler Halverson, Kaitlan Butts and Corey Kent. On Sunday, the bands featured will include the Dirty Birds, Reid Sullivan Band and Cypress Valley Band.
Friday night also brings back festival favorite Cajun Strong and dance band Geno Delafose.
