Community Impact reports that following a Montgomery County Commissioners vote on August 26th roadside vendor and solicitor regulations were scheduled to go into effect. It’s an ordinance regulating solicitors and roadside vendors in unincorporated areas of the county.
The solicitation of money including the sale or distribution of food and merchandise on public highways, rights of ways and roads is banned by the ordinance. The ordinance also prohibits vendors from maintaining or placing structures in those areas.
The goal, according to the ordinance, is to address traffic congestion and safety hazards caused whenever drivers stop or slow down to deal with solicitors or vendors.
The ordinance states, “Public safety is threatened by drivers who are distracted by the operation of vendors and solicitors on a public highway or road.”
A Class C misdemeanor is how violations will be classified under the Texas Transportation Code. Each day of noncompliance is seen as a separate offense. On September 1st, the new rules officially went into effect.
