Community Impact reports that the Conroe City Council, during their August 14th meeting okayed proposing a $0.4613 per $100 valuation tax rate for fiscal year 2025-26.
The new proposed tax rate exceeds the tax rate of 2024-25 of $0.4272.
Property taxes, according to Finance Manager Michael Monteilh, help fund:
-Fire and police service
-Improvements and maintenance for streets, signals and drainage
-Recreation and parks
-Community development and code enforcement
-Engineering, administration, human resources, legal, finance and information technology
Monteilh said, due to rising property values and continued commercial and residential development, the city is anticipating collecting more revenue. He said, $5.4 million would be collected because of the $0.4613 per $100 valuation voter-approved tax rate.
With general government projects coming in at $97.5 million and water and sewer projects estimated at $430 million, Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget takeaways include transitioning from a 10-year to a five-year capital improvement program.
Sewer and water rates are also predicted to increase:
-in residential rates, a 3.5% increase
-in nonresidential rates a 7.25% increase
On August 28th a public hearing is scheduled for the budget at Conroe City Hall.
