The Courier of Montgomery County reports that with school getting underway, in order to expand its after-school program to more Conroe-area campuses, The Woodlands Family YMCA has joined with Conroe ISD.
Taking place on campus, the YMCA After School Care program operates from the end of the school day to 6:30 PM. Five Conroe ISD elementary schools currently offer the program. After Labor Day, expansion plans call for adding five more elementary schools, and future plans could add six more elementary schools and three intermediate schools.
While engaging in social and academic activities the after-school program allows students to play indoor and outdoors.
At present, after-school care is available at BB Rice Elementary, Giesinger Elementary, Gordon Reed Elementary, San Jacinto Elementary and Stewart Elementary.
Available after Labor Day will be Janett Bartlett Elementary, Mittie J. Campbell Elementary, Robert W. Eissler Elementary, Patterson Elementary and Wilkinson Elementary.
Sites that are pending include, Anderson Elementary, Armstrong Elementary, Austin Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary, Reaves Elementary and Runyan Elementary with expansion in the future to Bozman, Grangerland and Travis intermediate schools.
According to information from the YMCA of Greater Houston, “To ensure sustainability each site must demonstrate viability with a minimum of 15 to 20 students expressing interest in order to proceed.”
September 1st is the last day parents can fill out an interest survey. This is to see if there is interest in a particular campus.
