The Courier of Montgomery County reports that, due to the lack of water infrastructure to serve new developments, Conroe continues its building moratorium. The council will review how the city can plan better for future water needs.
The council accepted a $196,670 proposal from Lockwood, Andrews and Newman for a water modeling study during a June 26th meeting.
Back in 2015, the last water modeling the city did was part of its master plan.
According to Assistant City Administrator and Director of Public Works Norm McGuire, this will be the first time the effort will include the entire water system of the city.
As the city works to address infrastructure needs, McGuire said the new modeling will update the previous one with the current conditions and projects underway.
McGuire said, “It’s a whole new system and also an analysis on how the system would function with all the new data that we have.” In addressing the future water needs, he thinks this is the “next big step.”
The city will have two projects come online this month, according to City Administrator Gary Scott, which will add needed water capacity to the city’s north side.
