Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM) announced another major milestone for its inaugural Class of 2024 members. According to the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), graduates who took the COMLEX-USA Level 3 examination during the 2024 testing cycle earned a 100% pass rate for first time test takers.
The distinction places SHSU-COM among only two of the 44 eligible osteopathic medical schools nationwide to achieve a perfect pass rate this year. COMLEX-USA Level 3 is the final exam in the national licensure series for doctors of osteopathic medicine, typically taken during the first year of residency. It evaluates a physician’s ability to apply clinical knowledge and osteopathic principles in the independent practice of medicine.
This latest success builds on the college’s growing list of academic achievements. In October 2024, SHSU-COM’s class of 2025 was recognized for having the highest first-time pass rate in the nation on COMLEX-USA Level 1, a foundational science exam taken before students begin their clinical rotations.
SHSU-COM, located in Conroe, Texas, welcomed its first class in 2020 and earned full 10-year accreditation with Exceptional Outcomes, the highest distinction granted by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, in 2024. With a focus on training primary care physicians to serve rural and medically underserved areas, the school has quickly distinguished itself with outcomes that rival long-established programs.
