The Courier of Montgomery County reports that in order to address increasing mobility issues throughout the community, Montgomery County commissioners are looking for support from residents for a $480 million road bond this Saturday.
The decision was made by the court in February to put the bond package on the ballot for May 3rd. On Saturday, polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM.
Early voting was scarce, according to Election Central. There were only 5,498 voters casting ballots. An additional 338 citizens submitted ballots by mail.
A list of 70 mobility projects was released by the county in March. Earlier this month, however, Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler rescinded a proposed four-lane extension of Townsen Boulevard after residents balked at the project.
During a previous meeting, the county’s investment adviser with BOK Financial Securities, John Robucks said the bond won’t require a tax increase.
The first sale of bonds, if given approval by voters, would total $180 million to be split between commissioners. 2015 was when the last road bond was put on the ballot by the county.
A $350 million bond was rejected by voters that May because of several projects that were considered controversial. Commissioners, however, lowered the bond down, and voters okayed a $280 million package in November 2015.
