Community Impact reports that new businesses, residential developments underway and an infrastructure project are bringing change to a section of Highway 242 near I-45.
More than a dozen businesses have opened within a mile radius of Highway 242, since 2023, including four residential developments underway in the area.
Montgomery County Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray said, “Our entire county is growing, and that corridor along 242 is no different.”
The fast pace of development has brought the issues that accompany growth, while residents said accessibility lured them to the area.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates, Montgomery County’s population grew from 554, 445 to 654,722 between 2018 to 2023.
President of the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce Scott Harper said the Highway 242 corridor is an extremely popular spot, taking into consideration its location to the Woodlands and it’s access to I-45.
He said it has been consistently busy, but with two lanes, and now an expansion of it is starting. He said, “The growth is following from the neighborhoods to the retail side.” He predicted it will “be bumper to bumper.”
