The Courier of Montgomery County reports that the Montgomery County nonprofit Children’s Safe Harbor in Conroe has reached a milestone in its construction with the topping out of the facility. It’s a $10 million building.
On February 26th, those on the project plus staff members, law enforcement, board members, donors and invited guests toured the facility undergoing construction and received an update on its progress.
The building’s purpose is to provide a place to better serve the needs of children who have been abused in the Montgomery County region. Located on Conroe’s Loop 336 East, the building offers 45,000 square feet of space.
Children’s Safe Harbor executive director Victoria Constance referred to the space as “God’s House.” Those gathered at the site signed their names and wrote inspirational messages on beams.
The organization connected with the facility is a Children’s Advocacy Center. For 27 years they have served the Montgomery County community offering healing, justice and hope to child victims of sexual and physical abuse.
According to information from the nonprofit organization, in 2023 the agency offered services to 2,302 children ages 2 through 17. They reviewed 8,928 reports of child abuse in Montgomery, Walker and San Jacinto counties. Launching in 1998, the group has conducted 26,500 forensic interviews overall.
The groundbreaking got underway in August. It’s been a 10-year effort to have a new expanded building.
The center will be located on 17 acres. Wrapping around a healing garden is their first floor which will provide space for a conference and training center for community events, law enforcement and a medical clinic.
The second floor will offer counseling and house a gym and staff dining area.
