Community Impact reports that during the March 4th meeting of Montgomery County Commissioners the Texas General Land Office announced that $60.37 million has been awarded for San Jacinto watershed drainage improvements.
In the GLO Government and Community Relations Specialist Regina Recinos presentation, she said the funding was given to address flood mitigation efforts in three major areas of the San Jacinto watershed, including:
–$15 million for Stewart Creek
–$8.99 million for Lake Creek
–$36.38 million for East Montgomery County
Recinos said GLO funding, in regard to the East Montgomery portion, will be spread across portions of Caney Creek, Peach Creek, White Oak Creek and the East Fork of the San Jacinto River. Filed in 2022, the county’s application said the funds will be used to clean tributaries and repair eroding creek beds and stream banks and remove obstructions.
