The Courier of Montgomery reports that the Montgomery County Fair is ahead. Country favorite Sammy Kershaw and newcomer Jacob Stelly will be on hand to entertain fair goers.
On April 4th, Stelly will perform, followed by Kershaw on the 5th. They will be on stage following Friday and Saturday rodeos. The fair runs April 3rd through 13th at the Montgomery County fairgrounds.
The performances will be outside next to the rodeo arena at the fair.
Stelly was raised in Liberty, Texas and started song writing while he was going to Texas A&M in College Station. “Moondog” was his debut album which included collaborations with Slade Coulter and Parker McCollum from Conroe. “Texas Red Dirt/American genre” is considered Stelly’s style of music.
Sammy Kershaw is from South Louisiana. At the age of 14 he met his idol, George Jones. This eventually put him on a path to opening for George Jones, Ray Price and Merle Haggard when he was still a teenager.
Kershaw has put out 16 studio albums in his musical career. Some of his hits include “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful,” “Cadillac Style,” Anywhere but Here” and “Queen of My Double-Wide Trailer.”
Back in February of 2010, he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.
Attracting participants from across the area, the fair is a 10-day event. Fair events include a 10-day carnival, youth livestock and non-livestock judging, adult division contests, entertainment on the grounds, rodeo events, vendors, a Hispanic family day and the yearly Montgomery County Fair Barbecue Cook-Off.
Tickets are now available on Montgomery County Fair’s website. Admission is charged between April 4th through 6th and April 11th and 12th.
