Community Impact reports that on January 7th Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker was approved by Montgomery County Commissioners to be in charge of special projects in the county as well overseeing the Montgomery County Mental Health Facility in their 100-bed expansion.
Because the project is within his precinct, Walker requested oversight of the facility project be shifted to his office. Overseeing the project and providing updates to the staff will be Special Projects Coordinator Brian Luly. The work was previously done by former Precinct 3 Chief of Staff Evan Besong.
The deadlines for the project include:
-for design development—November 20th
-for construction documents—March 10th
-for bidding—June 2nd
-for the 50% completion mark—April 30th, 2026
-for substantial completion—December 31st, 2026
-for completion—February 28th, 2027
Funded by part of a $50 million grant from the Texas Health and Human Services Mental Health Inpatient Facility Grant Program in 2023, the project will double the number of available beds at the Montgomery County Mental Health Facility. As a result of the 88th legislative session, the funding came from Senate Bill 30.
