The Courier of Montgomery County reports that Montgomery County Commissioners will consider new names for the library and community center in the Grogan’s Mill Village Center. They have rescinded the formerly approved name suggested by Commissioner James Noack in November of Heroes of Montgomery County Library and Heroes of Montgomery County Community Center.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler said during Tuesday’s court meeting that he will put together a focus group to consider other name possibilities for the facilities. After hearing from local residents, he said they would like to “put a little more time and thought into the naming.” He also passed along that until the time a new name is chosen, the facilities will be called the South Montgomery County Library and Community Center.
There was a groundbreaking ceremony back in July for the $16.5 million revitalization of Grogan’s Mill Village Center, which includes a new community center, library and 32,000 square feet for retail.
There was a sort of “land swap” deal made back in September with Howard Hughes. The organization will design, build and fund a new community center at the shopping center with their corporate funds. In the form of an exchange, Hughes will give the property to Montgomery County. Once completed, they will take over the library and community center. They’re located at 2250 Buckthorn Place.
