The Courier of Montgomery County reports that a new county fire truck specifically for responding to aircraft emergencies at the Conroe North Houston Regional Airport has been received by the Montgomery County Fire Marshals Office.
In May, the purchase of the $580,000 fire truck was approved by commissioners.
County Judge Mark Keough said in a Facebook post that it was a used truck but was in “great shape.”
He said, with the growth and increasing traffic at the airport, airport crews and passengers will be kept safe. He also said it will aid in attracting more tenants.
The vehicle to be replaced by the new one is 38-years-old and not operational.
Airport Director James Brown said during the last couple of months the airport has had to cope with the nonoperational truck and had around 10 emergency calls during that period. He is grateful that the city of Conroe does respond, but a truck on site will be much swifter to answer the call.
He said the truck will make sure there is compliance with various airport agreements with tenants. Brown said charter and large corporate flights require an Air Rescue Firefighting Vehicle.
