The Courier of Montgomery County reports that although the legislature in Austin has made funds for campus security available, officials from Conroe ISD say more money is needed.
On Tuesday, priorities were finalized by Conroe ISD trustees for the forthcoming legislative session, which includes asking for an increase in the state funding to provide the money for required safety upgrades and safety measures.
Only $10 per student for funding safety measures and $15,000 per campus was made available as a result of 2023 House Bill 3, which made available more than $1 billion to public schools.
Trustee Stacey Chase said work has been done here by the state. She said they have put forth “some good measures to take and required to take as a district.” However, she said, they didn’t “provide funding for it.”
