Community Impact reports that in a September 26th news release that the San Jacinto River Authority is looking for public and private proposals in the way of a partnership to reopen Lake Conroe Park.
Due to the expiration of a 30-year agreement between SJRA, the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Commissioner’s Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife agency, the Lake Conroe Park was closed on January 1. The expense of maintaining and operating a park had risen above the funding available to the office of Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker.
Discussion of the fate of the park has been underway among the SJRA Board of Directors, and since September 26th they are now looking for input from public and private enterprises for a possible partnership.
Sitting on 19 acres of land along the west shore of Lake Conroe, Lake Conroe Park has several pieces of equipment as well as facilities which would need assistance in maintaining. These include pavilions, an onsite water well, volleyball court, sewer lift station, swimming area, park office, restrooms and picnic tables.
The River Authority is taking requests for information from individuals and private companies in regard to propositions on operation of the park in the future.
Those wishing to submit a proposal should go to Sjra.net/purchasing/bidopportunities.
There is no timeline on when the park could reopen, so far. There is no deadline for proposals, but they will be presented to the board for discussion at future meetings.
