Community Impact reports that the Conroe City Council, in its August 29th special meeting, okayed a 120-day temporary development moratorium for the northern part of Conroe.
The reason for the moratorium is to prevent a potential shortage of water. The moratorium will put a halt to new developments. Additionally, residents will need to follow irrigation restrictions.
While the moratorium affects the northern portion of Conroe, it excludes April Sound subdivision, Panorama Village and the Montgomery County Municipal Utility Districts No. 3 and No. 4.
The council first warned about a loss in water capacity back in April. Next, during a May 22nd meeting, officials came up with the figure of $50 million to take care of the needed water infrastructure. In a related move on June 13th, the council went on to implement irrigation restrictions between May through October.
The Conroe Industrial Development Corporation has said they will provide $22.5 million to build two new water wells for the city.
