The Courier of Montgomery County reports that a new place with a primary focus on training young adults and children in sports for all levels of schooling will break ground on September 16 and open it’s doors in early 2024. It will be called The Core Sportsplex, and it will be located at 12110 Montgomery Road.
Coming to the complex are three organizations, which include Texas Diamonds, Airborne Volleyball and Eggz Flagg Football. For children 5 to 18, Airborne and Eggz Flagg Football have come together to make available developmental volleyball training and club teams.
Brett Rhea, who co-owns the venture with his wife Maria, said they are talking about additional sports activities outdoors like soccer, tackle football and whiffle ball. Possibilities exist for more indoor sports like jujitsu, wrestling, adult volleyball, dodgeball and pickleball.
Rhea also talked about their “hope to offer community events.” These would be events like birthday parties and Christmas markets.
Willis High School Varsity Volleyball Coach Megan Storms said that bringing in a new sports facility should grow the volleyball club programs already in the area. She thinks early involvement of children in sports will boost the development of athletes which will help the school district be more competitively qualified at the high school and middle schools.
The athletic director at Willis ISD, Jason Glenn, thinks the new facility will offer an additional way for kids to find a sport that suits them.
