Community Impact reports that there are some new facilities arriving next year at Cedar Brake Park which includes a pickleball court, new playgrounds and exercise equipment. It amounts to $700,000 in budgeted improvements.
Replacing the city’s aging playground equipment is the planned purpose of Montgomery County officials.
A presentation of what’s coming next year to the five-acre park was heard at the City Council on October 27th. Montgomery’s current budget included an approval of the improvement.
Two playgrounds at Cedar Brake Park will be completely replaced—one for kids ages 2 to 5 and another for kids ages 5 to 12.
According to Sales Associate for Cunningham Recreation, Tim Duckworth, who presented the information to the council, included are slides, swings, instruments to bang on, climbing elements and more. There will be more features accessible for children who use wheelchairs.
Councilmember Casey Olson said the “equipment is old and dilapidated and almost dangereous,” which is the reason kids don’t use the park right now. He said putting nicer equipment in fixes the problem.
According to Duckworth, some favorites will remain in the program such as the sandbox, trees and a tunnel kids crawl through.
