HUNTSVILLE, TX: Clyde “Kooter” Roberson, the longtime voice of Huntsville Hornet athletics, will be inducted into the Huntsville Hornet Hall of Champions on Friday, October 23, 2026 at HISD Stadium, during the Halftime festivities of the Hornet game.
For generations of Hornet fans, Friday nights have sounded like Kooter. As the longtime play-by-play announcer for Huntsville Hornet athletics, he brought games to life for those in the stands and for the many listeners who followed their Hornets over the radio. He called football, basketball, and other sports, making each contest feel like the biggest game of the season.
Roberson’s connection to Huntsville began early. He started at 101.7 KSAM as a student at Huntsville High School, and he became a staple of the station for decades as its entertaining, deep-voiced morning host. Huntsville woke up to “Kooter in your radio,” and many of those same listeners followed his voice right into the stadium.
Throughout his career, Kooter used the microphone to support the community. He regularly welcomed local leaders onto the air to promote events and fundraisers, and he was deeply involved in the Huntsville community.
The Hall of Champions honor comes during a special season for Roberson. He has also been selected for the Texas Radio Hall of Fame’s 2026 Class and will be inducted at a ceremony on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Texas Broadcast Museum in Kilgore. The City of Huntsville is also recognizing him this week with a proclamation.
Kooter remains a beloved figure throughout Huntsville and Walker County. For many Hornet fans, his voice is part of what made the game day experience special.
