Community Impact reports that this holiday season in Conroe the Christmas lights are moving downtown, and getting promotion help from the city will be the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival.
On September 24th, the Conroe City Council approved the two items. The holiday lighting will have a reduced cost contract while there’s a marketing grant for the festival of $20,000.
In renewing the annual contract with Christmas Kings lighting the council saved money, down from $300.000 to $126,210. According to the purchasing department’s recommendation the renewal gets underway today and is the second of five available renewals.
Along with a lower price is the move by the city of its holiday display from Candy Cane Park, where it was exhibited as a drive-through, to Founders Plaza.
The city’s executive director of downtown development Jodi Willard said in regard to the lights on the Founders Plaza, “It’ll be a walking tour.”
She said the Downtown Conroe Association is partnering with the city to coordinate the lighting arrangement. They will incorporate an American theme with traditional Christmas decorations.
She said the debut of the lights is scheduled for December 1st, following the tree-lighting ceremony, with Thursday through Saturday evening displays going on through December 26th. The downtown move for the lighting’s purpose was to draw people to visit nearby restaurants and shop.
The special marketing grant approved by the council for $20,000 for the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival was through Visit Conroe.
