HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Clyde “Kooter” Roberson, the longtime voice of 101.7 KSAM and a fixture of Huntsville-area sports broadcasting, has been voted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame’s 2026 Class.
Roberson was among 50 nominees named to this year’s ballot, selected by the Hall’s review committee from a field of more than 160 candidates with ties to Texas radio. Voting members have now confirmed his induction, and he will be formally honored at the Texas Radio Hall of Fame’s Induction Ceremony on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Texas Broadcast Museum in Kilgore, TX.
“As a friend, former co-worker and current General Manager of 101.7 KSAM, I enthusiastically nominated our dear friend Clyde ‘Kooter’ Roberson to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame,” said Bryan Reeder, General Manager of 101.7 KSAM, in announcing the nomination earlier this year.
Roberson got his start at KSAM Radio while still a student at Huntsville High School, and quickly became the station’s entertaining, deep-voiced morning personality. Beyond the studio, he became the longtime play-by-play voice of the Sam Houston State Bearkats and Huntsville Hornets, later moving to the P.A. booth to continue serving as the stadium voice for Bearkat athletics. He was also a longtime presence at the Walker County Fair and Rodeo, where he served as master of ceremonies, and he sang in the choir at Calvert Baptist Church.
The Texas Radio Hall of Fame’s 2026 Induction Class was drawn from a competitive nomination process that this year included a new “Small Markets, Big Voices” category, created to recognize broadcast professionals who built their careers serving listeners outside the state’s major markets — a category organizers say drew strong response from small-market broadcasters and their fans.
