Community Impact reports that the U.S. Department of Education has given Sam Houston State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine in Conroe a $4.99 million four-year Research and Development Infrastructure grant.
Investing in research infrastructure, faculty expertise and workforce development is the RDI program’s mission. The grant will supplement the college’s opportunities to pursue initiatives like planning and developing a master’s degree in biomedical sciences.
The College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Dean, Thomas Mohr, said “This grant underscores SHSU-COM’s dedication to advancing healthcare research and education while addressing critical workforce needs in Texas and beyond.” He said, “It represents an exciting step forward in positioning SHSU-COM as a leader in biomedical research and applied sciences.”
Neuroscience professor Vinoth Sittaramane said, “This grant will enhance research capacity, strengthen Texas’s healthcare pipeline and offer students unique opportunities to engage in critical research and public health projects.”
Back in 2019 SHSU-COM broke ground, and the school began operation in 2020.
