The Courier of Montgomery County reports that to offer people without housing meals, laundry and shower facilities, construction of an 8,000-square-foot center at the Miracle City campus in Conroe is underway.
The complex that will help people transition out of a homeless situation, Miracle City, is being developed by Luke Redus who founded Compassion United.
The center will include medical care, a commercial kitchen and computer rooms. The center will cost $2.1 million to build. Funding for the facility is in the form of federal grant dollars.
Compassion United has helped 100 people get off the streets in the last year. The center is critical to helping people transition from being homeless, according to Redus.
He passed along that the current situation has “been going really well.” They have a “team of success coaches” that address the “immediate needs” of homeless people coming in.
Their goal is to get the people off the streets as quickly as is feasible. He said this lets them keep up with homelessness.
At the end of 2018, Conroe donated 5 acres on Foster Drive for the future Miracle City facility. At present the organization runs out of a 5,500 square foot Empowerment Center.
In addition to the new center, and in partnership with HomeAid Houston, they will be constructing transitional houses.
