Community Impact reports that local business owners in the Conroe and Montgomery area are faced with having to adapt to how rising costs could impact their future, as the global economy moves up and down and struggles.
Per earlier Community Impact reporting, around 13 businesses have made the hard decision to either close down for good or go with online-only store fronts since early last year. The majority of the businesses made fast-food and sit-down dining available.
President of the Texas Restaurant Association, Emily Knight, said improvements were “modest” in the number of customers and the sale of their products. The gains, however, were negatively impacted by rising costs for food, labor, insurance, occupancy and operating costs.
Another factor affecting the owners of local businesses were fuel costs that were rising. According to the U.S. Energy Administration, costs for fuel have experienced a 30.4% increase since 2025.
The cost of goods, according to Knight, is pushing basic profitability in a downward direction for owners of small businesses, although sales and revenue have increased slightly over the years.
