Community Impact reports that $195,000 in arts and cultural grants have been approved by the Conroe City Council. Also, approved was a $65,000 project for a new Owen Theatre digital marquee.
The arts grants got underway October 1st to support eligible organizations during the 2026-27 grant year. The program is funded through hotel occupancy tax revenue administered by Visit Conroe. In Fiscal Year 2025-26 the council awarded $210,000 through the program.
The recipient list would get the full amounts they requested, as announced by staff.
Organizations must submit receipts for eligible expenses prior to receiving payments, as the grants operate as reimbursements.
Replacing both digital display boards on the Owen Theatre marquee with full-color LED signs, the council awarded AlphaGraphics of Conroe the $65,000 contract. Proposals were evaluated by the staff based on factors including equipment, warranties and completion time. Recommended as the best value for the city, AlphaGraphics had submitted the second-lowest bid.
In approximately five weeks, once the contract and equipment arrangements are underway, replacement is expected.
