Community Impact reports that, in regard to a proposed new justice center, Montgomery County is moving forward with architectural work. This as officials look at whether to put a funding measure before voters in November.
During their July 9th meeting, commissioners unanimously okayed choosing Dallas-based Brinkley, Sargent, Wiginton Architects, also called BSW Architects, for the project. A contract will come back to the court for approval which outlines the scope, cost and payment schedule.
Having made the selection, it lets the county get refining plans underway and develop a more reliable cost estimate for the courthouse proposal. The firm would build from an earlier facility study, according to BSW architect Charlie Goodman, rather than begin from no plan. The existing plans, however, would need to be looked at and updated.
Goodman said, “We would start immediately on giving you cost estimates, imagery and so on, to get you a number.”
The county would need a proposed project cost and ballot wording ready to meet the deadline before the bond election could be called in mid-August. The firm could provide a project estimate before August 15th, according to Goodman, if work started following the July 9th approval.
