The Courier of Montgomery County reports that after plans stalled to bring the existing Conroe ISD Education foundation in house, the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees consented to develop a plan to establish a stand-alone education foundation.
Trustee Melissa Dungan, during the June 16th meeting of the board, said they needed a plan in place with a new school year approaching. Late last year, the district and the foundation began talks about the transfer.
Receiving no Conroe ISD tax money, funding for the foundation relies only on donations. The foundations only fundraiser is its Scholarship Breakfast. Specific scholarships in memory of a single person family or group can also be funded by donations.
The foundation, according to officials, is ready to pass it on, but only after a memorandum of understanding is signed to protect the existing scholarships.
Board President Misty Odenweller said, “We are just trying to be efficient and get this moving forward.”
